Once upon a time, in a small town, there was a house that the whole [1] town thought was scary. The house was old and dark, and it stood alone at the end of the town. People said that a network [1] of ghosts lived inside, but no one was sure. They were too frightened [3] to go close.
One cold night, a strong wind began to blow, strong enough to overturn [4] trash cans and shake trees. Tim, a brave boy, wanted to show he wasn’t scared. He decided to visit the scary house. Tim wasn’t afraid of many things, but even he felt a little scared when he saw the large, shadowy figure of the house in the night. He told himself it was unlikely [5] anything would happen, but he wasn’t sure.
With a slice [6] of courage, he walked closer to the house, trying to ignore the sound of hail [7] hitting the ground around him like little white stones from the sky. He held a small flashlight in his arm [8]. It wasn’t much, but it helped him see the path.
As he reached the front door, it creaked open on its own, making him jump. Every degree [9] of his body wanted to run away, but he didn’t. He took a deep breath and stepped inside. The door slammed shut behind him. It was a technical [10] problem, he thought, as old houses often have broken things.
In the darkness of the house, he saw a crowd [11] of shadows. They moved and whispered, and it made him very scared. But he remembered that it was just unlikely [5] tricks of the light. He turned on his flashlight and saw the room was empty. The shadows were just old furniture covered in sheets.
He walked through the house, looking at the old pictures and strange things on the walls. Suddenly, he heard a loud noise. It sounded like a crowd [11] cheering for a feat [12], but there was no one there. Tim’s heart raced, but he didn’t leave. He had to show he could do this.
He went upstairs and into a room. As he did, the door shut behind him. Now he was really scared. He pushed and pulled, but the door wouldn’t open. It was like an arm [8] was holding it closed from the other side.
Out of the dark, a ghost appeared. It had no face, just a hollow where the face should be. It came closer and closer. He wanted to scream, but he couldn’t. He was too scared.
It was then that he woke up. Tim had been dreaming. He was in his bed, safe and warm. He laughed to himself. It had all been a dream, even the ghost. He felt silly that he had been so scared. But then, he saw a slice [6] of old wallpaper on his floor, the same as in the scary house in his dream. It must have come from somewhere. Tim never went close to the scary house again, and the mystery of the scary house stayed unsolved. Would you be brave enough to check it out?
